Lifecycle Assessment (LCA) and Techno-Economic Assessment (TEA) approaches for CO2 based-products and guidance for policymakers.

This hands-on workshop will gather experts and industry representatives working in the carbon dioxide capture and utilization space jointly with interested guests from policy and civil society.

 

The goal

The goal is to explore next-generation needs to inform future metrics, best practices, validation, and other steps toward building a global toolkit for measuring and reporting on carbon dioxide utilisation or removal. Comprehensive, consistent and transparent Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) and Techno-Economic Assessments (TEA), integrated into the policy landscape, will accelerate funding decisions and promote sustainability-driven technology development.

Policy makers and industrial practitioners voice the need for standardised methods and guidelines, which is the aim of the EIT Climate-KIC supported project LCA/TEA for CO2-Based Products.

The potential behind LCAs and TCAs

From reforestation to direct air capture, CO2 removal and utilisation technologies have the potential to transform a liability into an asset and create long-term benefits to our climate, while stimulating economic growth. But these technologies must prove their commercial and environmental viability and benefits cannot be taken for granted. Techno-economic assessment (TEA) and life cycle assessment (LCA) are the tools to achieve this, however, no standardised methods and guidelines to conduct TEA and LCA currently exist.

Who is it for?

This workshop is for invited practitioners and organisations only, and registration is limited to 100 guests. Attendance at the workshop assumes corporate interest, and some familiarity with LCA and/or TEA of CO2-based products as well as the guidelines and worked examples that can be accessed via the Global CO2 website.
