ZARILOGO

The Zambia Agricultural Research Institute (Zari) aims to explore the potential for promoting effective on-farm seed storage through the use of low-cost, improved storage vessels, as well as establishing community seed banks in a local context.

The project also seeks to experiment with maintaining seed viability and vigour for open-pollinated seed varieties using different types of low-cost storage environments in Zambia. For example, the project aims to innovate indigenous storage methods of iris potatoes, such as underground storage pits.
