Join our free workshop series on data services and tools for climate risk reduction and adaptation for cities and regions. The two trainings will take place online on 5 and 19 November 2024.
WORKSHOP 1
Data for climate risk reduction and adaptation
5 November, 10:00 CET
In this workshop, participants will gain insights into the climate data valorisation framework and engage in practical sessions led by experts from Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon and the European Association of Remote Sensing Companies (EARSC). It will feature a dynamic dialogue on integrating climate information and Earth observation, along with success stories from the Harmonia project and testimonials from cities showcasing effective climate resilience strategies. There will be a Q&A session.
This interactive webinar is organised on the occasion of the 12th World Urban Forum. This year’s theme is local actions for sustainable cities and communities, addressing how valuable data drive localised adaptation and ensure regions and cities thrive in a future with unprecedented climate challenges and risks. It aims to bring together experts from academia, business association and local government to discuss how high value datasets can enable regions and cities to adapt to climate change.
WORKSHOP 2
Climate data services and tools: Copernicus Climate Change Services support to regions
19 November, 13:00 CET
This workshop will empower regional authorities with knowledge on integrating Copernicus Climate Change Services (C3S) into adaptation strategies. Thanks to practical sessions with experts from the European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts and Aerospace Valley, participants will discover how to leverage new data and technologies for monitoring climate change effectively. The training will also explore regional programmes aimed at integrating the C3S into adaptation strategies. Additionally, the event will highlight best practices for regional cooperation and knowledge exchange in data-driven climate action.
This capacity building programme has been designed by EIT Climate-KIC as part of our EU-funded programme VALORADA. You can register for either or both workshops at this link:
About VALORADA
VALORADA is an EU-funded programme, of which EIT Climate-KIC is a partner, providing government authorities, businesses, researchers and interested individuals with training activities and collaborative projects to strengthen understanding of Earth observation data and find ways to use them for climate adaptation. Through this programme, we work with individuals and institutions at every level – from first-time users to technical experts of Earth observation data.
Our capacity-building programme is composed of a series of interactive workshops building on insights from the project’s ‘demonstrator’ cities and regions, including the municiplities of Gabrovo and Burgas (Bulgaria), the statutory city of Prerov and Mlada Boleslav (Czechia), the region of Occitania (France), the region of Central Greece (Greece) and the region of Molise (Italy).
