Innovation portfolios, a practical approach to navigate transformative innovation

LOCATION
Online
DATE
25 Jan 2022

Tackling the climate crisis requires transformative system change—a fundamental shift to place sustainability at the core of our societal systems. But, how can projects, programmes and other initiatives assess their contribution to this transformation, before, during and after their lifespan?

Innovation portfolios are complex structures where projects, programmes and actions enable links with interconnected subgroups of projects and programmes, by creating new strategic relations among multiple sectors, locations and levels of government. The application of challenge-led system mapping on innovation portfolios allows multi-stakeholder settings to explore strategic opportunities in terms of multiple nested and articulated innovation portfolios responding to different framings, financial logics and institutions.

Innovation portfolios, a practical approach to navigate transformative innovation” is happening online on 25 January 2022 from 15:00 to 16:30 CET and is co-organised by the Transformative Innovation Policy Consortium (TIPC). In the workshop, we will learn when, how and why to use innovation portfolios, looking at real life cases from the Western Balkans, Gipuzkoa, the Regional Innovation Scheme (RIS) programme and other multi-location initiatives supported by EIT Climate-KIC.
