The COP27 UN Climate Change Conference, hosted by Egypt this year, will take place from 6 to 18 November 2022 in Sharm El-Sheikh. In addition to advance global climate talks and action, this year’s climate conference will focus on the impact of climate change in Africa, a continent disproportionately vulnerable to floods, drought, and extreme heat.
The Members of EIT Climate-KIC are also leading or contributing to independent sessions related to climate innovation during COP27 and are inviting you to join virtually or in person. Please note that all the events listed below are in Egypt local time (GMT+2).

Children and Youth Pavilion at COP27: Unlock the GreenBox

A new gamified and renovated experience for kids to learn more about sustainability.
The Green Box is a hands-on educational kit for schools to introduce students (aged 8 to 14 years old) to new green experiments and sustainability scientific facts, such as clean energy and environmental protection.

Socio-economic and environmental impacts of carbon markets in the Global South: benefit or burden?

Climate change mitigation is one of the biggest challenges when we talk about climate action. Therefore, at COP27, one of the most discussed topics is the implementation of the so-called “Carbon Markets”. Even though this solution bring benefits, it is also seen by some critics as shifting CO2 credits from one side of the world to the other without real benefits for society.
This workshop aims to discuss with the participants, their opinions and feelings with regards to this topic considering their personal experiences, background and their current local context, in order to gain a rich and plural narrative about the topic, that contribute to better understand the current or potential impacts.

Join this session focusing on green growth, decent work, and economic prosperity in the transition to net zero, organised in collaboration with the European Commission and the World Bank.
The event will take stock of the governance process of the just transition and particularly the coal phase-down in the EU and its partner countries.
