Paris-Saclay Climathon: Developing circular economy to support local ecological transition
The Climate-KIC Climathon is a global 24-hour climate change event which will take place simultaneously in major cities around the world on 28 October 2016.
For Paris-Saclay, the Climate-KIC Climathon will start in the evening of the 28 October and will last until the following day at 6 pm. Major local authorities are taking part in the organisation of this challenge that is coordinated by La Diagonale and the Paris-Saclay urban Community.
The Paris-Saclay territory is currently growing to become one of the major scientific economic and higher education pole in France, thus facing many challenges for sustainable urban planning and mobility. In 2020, the size of this territory will probably double, attracted more corporates, businesses. Meanwhile, the quality of life shall be maintained and the territory wish to evolve in a sustainable way.

The Challenge
In order to make Paris-Saclay agro-urban environment more climate-friendly, one needs to bring closer production sites and consumers. This means influencing way of life and habits. It also means suggesting new collaborations and various forms of solidarity network.
Waste reduction, energy performance and sobriety, recycling and circular economy are relevant issues to address for the Paris-Saclay urban community. The Climathon will support ideation projects, to co-develop local solutions and stimulate the development of solidarity networks.
Partners and contributors
A complete ecosystem is engaged in this Climathon challenge, with public (Paris-Saclay local authorities) and private actors (start-ups), relevant associations (Le Vivant et la Ville, Terre et Cité), and famous climate experts like Valérie Masson-Delmotte (GIEC member), who will make an introductory speech to launch the challenge.
The participants, set by teams of 4-5 persons, will be supported by coaches, will benefit from training to the creation of a business model. They will be provided with data and expertise from specialists from the LSCE and entrepreneurs, and knowledge from the territorial actors.
The pitch
By the end of the 24 hours, each team is invited to pitch their solution to a jury. The winners will receive a prize and have the opportunity to implement their solution at a real scale, with the support of the organizers.
